Introduction - What Is Paintball?
What is Paintball?
Paintball is a sport in which two teams of players try to gain a particular objective. To help them, they use paintball markers (paintguns) which fire small spheres of paint coated in a gelatin substance, which splatters on impact. The object of the game is to gain your objective and splatter your opponents to help you do so.
The paintball markers (paintguns) are powered by either compressed air or carbon dioxide and fire the paintball up to the maximum allowable limit of 300 feet per second.
Players are required to wear safety gear to prevent eye and ear damage, which is really the only danger during play.
There are several types of paintball:
Tournament paintball (tourneyball), which occurs using internationally accepted rules on specially constructed fields, generally with 7 players in a team. There is a large following in New Zealand and overseas, and tournament events are held very regularly, attracting teams from overseas as well as New Zealand.
Recreational paintball (recball), which can happen on any kind of paintball field, following a large variety of rules or formats depending on the field and the wishes of the players. These are the types of game the casual player will be exposed to. This is what our club plays.
Mil Sim Recball and Woodsball?
Woodsball, also known as woods paintball, Hillball or Bushball, is a popular form of paintball. Unlike its counterpart, Speedball, Woodsball is played in any natural setting. Sometimes, Woodsball is used in conjunction with Scenario paintball, which is played with a predetermined story or setting.
Mil Sim stands for Military Simulation, Here at Pyro North nz thats what were all about. Army uniforms, combat vests and paintball markers that replicate real modern day weaponry.
