Rumours Can Be True - PAINTBALL 2010

After 3 years of running our private, invite only airsoft outfit the core players group (Black Daggers STG) with talks with other players has resulted in a massive change for our wargaming club.

Its Official, Pyro North nz is now Pyro North Paintball, now Open to the public - particularly students of Whangarei Boys High School. The Club is now a .68 Mil-Sim RecBall Club, and talks are now underway with local paintball field operators to see who can cater for us. Ultimatley, whoever gives us the best deal will bennifit from our monthly club games and our mini players championship and of course our highly popular Pyro North TV coverage & advertising.

"Were looking for a field that caters for 8-20+ players at a time, some of which will have their own gear" Says Kenny, STG Sqn Leader. "While it might be a .68 Mil Sim club, mainly consisting of under 18s, their is no particular restrictions or rules in place towards who can come play with us, the 'STG Black Daggers' will be the core group of mil sim gamers, while the rest can join the 'infantry' as Recreational players. You dont have to have your own gear, field rentals will be the first option available, and we would love to have recreational players from all styles of play and all skill levels, ultimatley its about having fun with a bunch of great mates"

The move from Airsoft will be slightly difficult, its a new game to get used to for some, and for others there is the cost aspect. However the STG team says theres little difference. "When you look at it, we have our club airsoft battles once a month - the nature of airsoft weaponry can be that the minor things break in our rough environment, and mainting an electric or funding  c02 airsoft weapon takes alot of time and effort the way its currently set up here (pnnz) and not to mention we spend shitloads on food & other disposables. Moving to paintball the games are set, the honesty system doesnt have to be relied upon as much with paintballs actualy inflicting pain in many cases - this is all part of that mil sim style most of our players love" Its expected the Pyro North team will shrink to an all time low with the move to paintball, many discontinuing airsoft as a whole and moving onto other things because of work or other things.

Pyro North Paintball now has 7 Core team members, 5 of which are the full time STG Black Daggers. In total there are 12 regulars now signed up for paintball with player searching about to begin at WBHS. "Bring a friend" is the message the Black Daggers are using, as the team hopes to re-populate the club with a new breed of war gamer, getting back to its 20+ strength

The official change over will happen in the term 3 school holidays, with the first official game being held on the mid holiday weekend.

OUTLINES FOR 2010:

  • 10 In-Club Championship events, fought on local field(s).
  • Championship points awarded to each indivudal player on the day, team points also collected from individual points. Player with the best kill-death ratio/highest points at the end of the season is our winner. (Plans for Prizes or a Trophy are being drawn up)
  • Random Non-Championship recball club days held at local field(s).
  • Targeting Senior High School players, Mil Sim & Standard Recreational
  • Do Not Have to Own Gear
  • Standard Battledress like that of our previous years is still encouraged.
  • High hopes to have each battle filmed, thanks to SBPnz who have just bought a new all weather helmet camera and also have secured MIR as sub-contracted filmer(s)
  • This means PNTV will continue but with a paintball theme =)
  • Cost: $10-25 Per Person average a month or per event. Depending on what field will be confirmed fo 2010 and who has their own gear. As usual we are non profit club, cash individualy payed to the field runners.
  • Possible sponsorship from a local buisness (a spot on our team shirts)
  • PERSONAL GEAR OWNERSHIP AT YOUR CHOICE. We  encourage that you keep your marker safe, Younger players should keep your parents involved, and markers are only to be used on proper paintball fields, and use common sense to make sure we dont have idiots wrecking the comunity and to continue a safe game environment.
  • NO MORE PYROS - We might be called pyro north from our earlier days, but we are putting that behind us. We will still do our pyro mockbattles and film work which work with our name but for our paintball battles pyros will no doubt be a big no no. Any use of a pyro will be at field owners choice - and their decsion is FINAL. We understand fire hazards and saftey and that is completly fine. I know some of you hardcore mil sim gamers love an explosion here and there but well have to give it a miss i think. We might be able to use colored smoke dispensers for a bit of fun but thats all we can do.
  • For a bit of encouragement, check out this video:

  • We probably cant have vehicles like in that video, but you get the idea eh? =D

3 Rounds To Go, Blackwolf Countdown Begins

With a long overdue rebranding, PNTV and Pyro North airsoft now have a highly user friendly website which will benift both Members and visitors. This aside, its now that time of year again, the Operation Blackwolf Grand Final is now on its way - The second stage of planning is now underway after a player submission hearing over the last week. Organisers are also asking members to keep suggestions comming and want all players involved throughout the process. "Its not easy setting up a 9 hour battle, theres alot of organising to do, things to setup and above all alot of work gets put in by the Saftey marshalls" , Says James (Blackwolf Manager).

There are 9 Teams in the championship this year, down by 3. Affordabilty and time are major factors in decrease in attendance. "alot of people this year have stopped using Semis and have brought out their old favourites (Spring power) and those left using Semis and Gas are a bit more cautios", Says Kenny, (W4 Sqn Leader). "I think its important that everyone takes the time in the lead up to the final to check their gear, it costs a fair bit if somthing gets damaged - ive seen alot of duct tape on rifles latley, my Steyr needs a good clean up (Broken Foregrip and damaged magazine entry) and im using the Ak47 for the rest of the season"

Operation Blackwolf is set for a november date, most likley during the final days of NCEA EXAM week, so players will be able to attend on weekdays. A date will have to be organised amongst teams, but like always the countdown officialy starts on the first of September and runs through to GUYFAWKES (November 5). There are 2 rounds before that though - Operation Greenwolf & Stealthwarrior are also still to come!
